The contribution of the system sciences is of critical importance as a foundation paradigm and theory which has a strong influence to the growth of theories and practices of educational technology. The system sciences keep evolutionary growth and development through convergence and divergence, however, educational technology appears to lack the reflection on these changes. Following the investigations of not the main theories and con-cepts of system sciences but the characteristics of system sciences as a foundation theory of educational technology as well, this paper inquires the directions that system sciences would be able to support educational technology. System sciences lend to educational technology the capabilities to understand the fact that there are diverse educational systems/ contexts and each system is unique. In addition, it guides educational technology to turn from ``prescription`` for solving educational problems to ``proscription``.
