This study proposes a set of systematic prescriptions for designing an interactive Web- based instruction. A majority of instructional Websites lack interactive capabilities, and they are just links of hypertext with dazzling graphics of ‘electric page turner. ``Instructional design strategies for the Web are required to facilities meaningful learning, and especially for the aspect of interactive Web. In order to develop the designing strategies, the researcher, first, analyzed traditional and advanced designing strategies for interactive Computer- based instruction. Prescriptions for interactivity were examined in the following areas : learning and instructional theories, learner control, and human- computer interface. The next analys is focuses on the interactivity in the networked environment, which is often called distance education. There are three kinds of interactivity in the networked environment: learner and content, learner and instructor, and among learners. The two dimens ions for instructional design strategies for the interactive Web were class ifiedin to five different aspects of interactivity: ① the entity of interactivity- between learner and content, between learner and instructor, and among learners, ② the educational character is tics of interactivity- cognitive or social interactivity, ③ the types of cognitive interactivity- computer imaginative and general interactivity, ④ the types of computer imaginative interactivity- learner control and interface interactivity, ⑤ the types of learner-content interactivity- presentation, practice, feedback strategies. The five aspects of interactivity are organized into a synthetic model of interactive Web-based instruction which has a set of instructional prescriptions. The model can guide the development of interactive Web-based instruction and evaluate the aspect of interactivity of the developed Web-based instruction.
