중학교 사회 교과서에 나타난 이데올로기 및 편견 분석-서남아시아 및 아프리카 단원을 중심으로- = The Analysis of Ideology and Bias Embedded in Social Studies Textbooks in the Middle School-A Case of the Southwest Asia and Africa-

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

This study examines ideology and bias embedded in the content and illustration of southwest Asia and Africa, social studies textbooks in the middle school. According to a survey, the students mostly had negative image of these regions on which especially textbook influenced the most. It is Erocentrism that Southwest Asia and Northern africa is represented in negative islamic culture and Central and Southern Africa is represented in borders, plantation, underground resources and racism as vestiges of colonialism. Moreover, the africa is described in perspectives of physical environment, the animal kingdom, conflict, hunger, refugees, environmental disaster so that it can implant learners physical, violent and poor images. Constructing content of textbook in terms of Eurocentrism can`t contribute to make global citizens with spirit of consideration and sharing. Therefore with a balanced description about content of textbook, learners should critically read and write on text. Then learning through world geography can contribute learners to make a better world.
