독거노인의 경제수준, 건강상태, 사회적 지지가 우울에 미치는 영향

국문 초록 (Abstract)

본 연구는 65세 이상 홀로 생활하고 있는 독거노인을 대상으로 경제적 상태, 건강상태, 사회적 지지 등이 우울에 미치는 영향에 대해 살펴보고자 하였다. 이를 위해 본 연구는 2006년부터 실시되고 있는 한국복지패널조사의 1차년도 자료를 중심으로 836 독거노인가구 사례를 선별하여, 각 변인에 대해 기술 통계분석과 위계적 다중회귀분석(Blocked Regression Analysis)을 실시하였다.
본 연구의 주요 결과들은 다음과 같다. 첫째, 독거노인은 학력수준이 대체적으로 낮고, 신체적 건강상에 문제가 많으며, 특히, 경제적 수준이 매우 낮고 우울정도가 높은 것으로 나타났다. 둘째, 개인특성변인들에 다른 우울의 차이를 조사한 결과, 학력, 거주형태, 건강상태, 만성질환유무, 장애유무, 생활수준, 근로능력, 경제적 곤궁, 가족지지 등이 우울에 영향을 미치는 것으로 나타났다. 셋째, 우울에 영향을 미치는 변수들을 살펴보기 위한 단계적 회귀분석에서는 경제적 요인의 영향력이 가장 큰 것으로 나타났으며, 이외 건강상태, 사회적지지 등이 유의미한 영향을 미친 것으로 나타났다. 즉, 근로능력이 있을수록, 경제적 곤궁정도가 적을수록, 주관적 생활수준이 높을수록, 신체적으로 건강할수록, 가족지지가 강할수록 독거노인의 우울이 감소하는 것으로 나타났다. 하지만 기존 일반노인을 대상으로 한 연구에서 제시된 인구사회학적 개인 특성의 우울에 대한 효과는 나타나지 않아 독거노인에 대한 정책적 방향이 일반노인과 상이한 형태로 진행될 필요성이 있는 것으로 나타났다.
이상의 결과들을 바탕으로 독거노인의 우울을 경감시키기 위한 몇몇 정책적 함의를 제시하였다.

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

This study was purposed to explore the factors influencing the depression level of the elderly living alone. This study especially focused on the relationship between economic status and the depression level of the elderly living alone. For this, this study used the first year data came from "Korean Welfare Penal Research" that covered over 6,000 household over the country. For the purpose of the study, total 838 elderly living alone were selected as sample and descriptive and blocked(or hierarchical) regression methods were used.
The main findings were as follow. First, the elderly living alone showed such characteristics as low education, high health problems, low economic status and high depression level. Second, looking at the results in bi-variate analyses, education. housing. health status, chronic disease. disability, level of living arrangement, working ability, financial strain, family support were related to the depression level of the elderly living alone. Finally, multi-variate analysis showed that economic status, in addition to health status and social support, were played the greatest role in explaining the depression level of the elderly living alone. That is, as the elderly get higher working ability, lower level of financial strain, higher economic status, better health status, and stronger family support, they tended to experience lower level of depression.
Based on the results, several policy and empirical implication were suggested.
