다문화주의와 타자의 문제

국문 초록 (Abstract)

이 연구는 다문화사회에서의 연대의 가능성을 모색하기 위한 기초작업으로서 ‘타자의 문제’를 다루고자 한다. 타자의 문제는 사회학적 고찰과 철학적 고찰이라는 두 가지 방향에서 접근하게 될 것이다. 사회학적 고찰에서는 라이너 촐(R. Zoll)이 ??오늘날 연대란 무엇인가??에서 서술한 타자의 문제에 대한 다양한 학자들의 입장을 개괄할 것이며, 철학적 고찰에서는 에마뉘엘 레비나스(E. Levinas)의 관점을 중심으로 서구 사상의 주체중심적 사고방식 혹은 일원론적 사고방식의 문제점과 그 귀결 그리고 타자 사유의 필연성(요청)에 대해 살펴보고자 한다. 특히 레비나스는 일원론적 혹은 환원주의적 사고방식의 파멸적 귀결을 나치 정권을 통해 고발하고 있으며 그 대안으로 타자의 철학(타자윤리학)을 제시하고 있다. 또한 이 연구는 선언적 의미의 다문화주의가 실제적인 의미를 가질 수 있는 전망을 제시하기 위해서 세계시민주의와 관용의 문제를 다루게 될 것이다. 다문화주의 혹은 다문화정책의 이념은 실제로 많은 문제점을 안고 있는 것으로 비판되고 있다. 그러나 우리의 시대적 사명은 우리가 다문화사회(현상)를 벗어날 수 없는 한, 다문화주의 한계와 문제점을 극복하고 그 장점을 살릴 수 있는 길을 모색하는 것이다. 그리고 이 연구는 거의 시대적 상투어가 되어 버린 다문화주의가 좀 더 내실 있는 성과를 거두기 위해서는 ‘사실과 객관성’의 토대를 진솔하게 제시하는 것이 무엇보다도 중요하다는 점을 강조하고자 한다.

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

This paper examines multiculturalism in terms of the problem of otherness. First, redescribing R. Zoll’s sociological research, I explain the problem of otherness in sociological aspect. He classifies the problem of otherness into several dimension. For the solidity in a modern society, in which individuation und social variation are grown, the organic relationships between the regular members and non-regular member is necessary, in order to resolve the problem of otherness. Second, I analyze the philosophical concept of E. Levinas about the otherness. Levinas intends to describe the encounter with the something outside the subject. Here, the concepts of possession, distinctiveness and understanding are replaced by those of approaches, proximity, care and fecundity. In conclusion, I argue that tolerance as justice is the main element for the establishment of multicultural society.
