사회자본이 도시와 농어촌 노인의 우울증에 미치는 영향에 관한 연구 = 성인자녀 관계망 및 사회적 관계망을 중심으로

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

This study aimed to compare several factors between the urban and rural elderly and determine the role of social capital on depression. A sample of 2,754 older adults(the urban elderly of 1,620 and the rural elderly of 1,134) was drawn from the 2006 Korean Longitudial Study of Ageing(KLoSA). The results were as follows. First, the rural elderly were in lower position in areas of demographic variables such as education, income, living arrangement, and employment status. Second, the rural elderly had a lower number of chronic health conditions, whereas the urban elderly were more likely to rate their health condition as 'very good~good'. The urban elderly tended to have more disability days and be more overweighted. When the CES-D10 criterion was employed to diagnose depression, both groups were found to be diagnosed as higher rates of depression, although the number of the diagnosed rural elderly were shown to be significantly higher than their counterparts. The socioeconomic disparity between the urban and rural residence pervaded into the concept of social capital. The urban elders tended to have adult children living nearby, see more frequently, and make more contacts than rural counterparts. Due to the lower level of socioeconomic standings, the rural residents tended to have received more monetary and non-monetary assistances. The multivariate analyses showed that for the rural elderly model, the social capital(e.g., adult children networks and social networks) played to lower the level of depression, whereas for the urban elderly model the social capital did not have any effects on depression. These results indicated that the concept of common community still had a strong influence on the rural elderly, thus suggesting that the strengthening of family and community might be effective in lowering depression. Several suggestions were made to alleviate and prevent depression.
