비판적 담론 분석과 비판적·해방적 학문

국문 초록 (Abstract)

이 연구는 오늘날 담론분석과 문화연구 분야의 중요한 흐름을 형성하고 있는 비판적 담론분석 학파의 비판적 - 해방적 목표와 대표적인 담론분석의 연구사례들을 검토하여, 비판적 담론 분석의 한계와 문제, 과제를 정식화하는 것을 목표로 한다. 비판적 담론분석 학파는 담론을 단지 언어적 텍스트와 기호체계로 이해하지 않고, 사회적 총체의 한 계기로서 작용하는 사회적 실천으로 간주한다. 특히 사회의 지배관계를 재생산하고 강화하는 데 기여하는 담론의 질서와 언어적 장치들을 규명하여, 그것의 이데올로기적 자명성을 해체하고 해방적 인식의 가능성을 여는 것이 핵심적 목표다. 담론분석의 연구실제에서 그와 같은 비판적 - 해방적 인식관심은 무엇보다 담론의 권력효과, 이데올로기의 언어적 장치들, 지배담론의 역사적 전승과 사회적 확산 기제를 규명하는 것을 통해 구현됐다. 그러나 비판적 담론 분석은 지배관계를 치밀하게 폭로하기보다는 규범적 판단을 선언적으로 전제하는 경향이 있으며, 언어적 전략과 장치에 대한 분석에 국한되어 국가권력과 자본주의의 작동양식에 대한 분석을 유기적으로 통합하지 못했고, 담론의 지배기능과 헤게모니 효과를 드러내는 데 치중하여 담론의 적대성과 균열, 담론투쟁의 역동성을 포착하지 못했다는 한계를 갖고 있다. 이상의 한계를 극복했을 때 비판적 담론 분석의 비판적 · 해방적 목표는 힘과 예리함을 더할 수 있을 것이다.

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

This study aims to conduct a sympathetic criticism of the critical discourse analysis approach by way of the critical reassessment of their criticalemancipatory interest and some major research practices. The CDA school criticized the formal notion of discourse as a linguistic text corpus and semiotic system, and understood it as a social practice which functions as a constituent moment of the social totality. In particular, the main purpose of the CDA is to inquire into the order of discourse and linguistic devices which contribute to the reproduction and reinforcement of the system of domination within a society, and to disintegrate their ideological self-evidence and to open up the possibility of an emancipatory discourse. In the research practices of discourse analysis, such a critical-emancipatory interest was realized by way of investigating and revealing the power effect of discourses, the ideological linguistic devices, and the mechanisms of historical transmission as well as systemic diffusion of the dominant discourses. Despite the immense significance of these theoretical elaborations and research contributions of the CDA, however, the CDA tended to start from a declaratory moral-political judgment instead of exposing the reality of domination and injustice; was not that successful in integrating a deeper analysis of the state power and capitalism into the discourse analysis; and gave undue value upon the hegemonic effect of the dominant discourses, while overlooking the antagonism, rupture, and struggles within the field of discursive interactions in society.
