      Up to the present, study of leadership has contributed much to both academical and practical development. However, most of leadership research is based on the leader-centric perspective and little has been done from subordinate-centric perspective. This paper reviews subordinate-centric leadership research for maximizing the efficiency of leadership. Related to this, Romance of Leadership theory, LMX theory and Followership theory are introduced and discussed. And suggestions on the direction for future research are provided. Subordinate-centric perspective that is presented in this paper may help future leadership development research.

      Up to the present, study of leadership has contributed much to both academical and practical development. However, most of leadership research is based on the leader-centric perspective and little has been done from subordinate-centric perspective. This paper reviews subordinate-centric leadership research for maximizing the efficiency of leadership. Related to this, Romance of Leadership theory, LMX theory and Followership theory are introduced and discussed. And suggestions on the direction for future research are provided. Subordinate-centric perspective that is presented in this paper may help future leadership development research.
