질적 연구의 최근 동향과 그 의미 = The meanings of latest trends in qualitative research

New trends in qualitative research emerge in the postmodern era. This study aims to find the latest trends of qualitative research and analyzes meanings of them. I suggest four new trends of qualitative research in postmodernism and three meanings of them.
Firstly, the autobiographic approach is emerging. It orients social change with sharing lived experiences of researchers and participants as equal subjects in their life. Secondly, the participatory approach is emerging. It is to reform actualities with understanding realities through recognizing “others'” problems as “ours”. Thirdly, the performative approach is emerging. It focuses performances as a new representative way to overcome ‘ethnographic textualism’. Lastly, the aesthetic approach is emerging. It values sensations and feelings of subjective lived-experiences and uses various arctic ways of data collection and representation.
Theses new trends in qualitative research are related to the turn from a research of strange ‘others’ to a research of ‘us’, ‘here’ and ‘now’. New trends in qualitative research orient respect for subjective lived-experiences, sympathy with the public and an improvement on realities. These new trends mean an integrative approach(deconstructing borders), restoration relationships(doing together), and empowerment(living together). These new meanings of the latest trends ask the anthropology of education to focus on the holistic, publicness, and directedness of culture and education.

국문 초록 (Abstract)

포스트모더니즘 시기를 맞이하여 질적 연구에는 새로운 경향들이 나타나고 있다. 이 연구는 최근에 나타나고 있는 질적 연구의 새로운 동향과 그 의미를 고찰하고, 이것이 교육인류학에 주는 시사점을 탐구한 것이다.
나는 질적 연구의 새로운 동향을 네 가지로 제시하였다. 먼저, 연구자와 연구참여자가 동등한 삶의 주체로서 서로의 체험을 공유하여 문제를 함께 인식함으로써 사회 변화를 지향하는 ‘자전적 경향’의 등장이다. 둘째, ‘타자’의 문제를 ‘우리’의 문제로 인식함으로써 현실의 이해와 더불어 현실의 실질적 개선을 모색하고자 하는 ‘참여적 경향’의 등장이다. 셋째, 문화기술적 텍스트주의의 한계를 넘어서 새로운 표현 방식인 연행에 주목하는 ‘연행적 경향’의 등장이다. 마지막으로 개인의 주관적 체험의 느낌, 감각을 중시하여 다양한 예술적 자료 수집과 표현 방법을 활용하는 ‘심미적 경향’의 등장이다.
이러한 질적 연구의 새로운 동향은 질적 연구가 더 이상 낯선 ‘타자’에 대한 연구가 아니라 ‘지금’ ‘여기’ 우리’의 연구를 하는 것으로 그 방향을 전환한 것과 관련 있다. 주관적 체험에 대한 존중, 대중과의 공감, 현실의 개선을 지향하는 새로운 질적 연구의 동향이 의미하는 것을 나는 통합적 접근(경계 해체하기), 관계성의 회복(함께 하기), 역량 강화(상생 하기)로 설명하였다. 이러한 질적 연구의 새로운 의미는 문화와 교육의 관계를 연구하는 교육인류학이 문화와 교육의 총체성, 공공성, 지향성에 주목할 것을 요청한다. 현실의 여러 경계와 벽을 해체하고 넘나들며, 함께 하고, 상생 하고자 하는 질적 연구는 교육이 지향하는 바와 맞닿아 있다. 따라서 질적 연구의 과정은 그 자체가 교육적 향상을 초래하는 교육의 과정일 수밖에 없다.
