Recently, in Koreas as well as the U.S. and Japan, social-based service using the attribute of a sense of online community has rapidly obtained its position in the media market, and it has widened its scope of service through the convergence with location-based service based on location information. In such social media service, a mechanism of `surveillance` has been internalized through a combination of a desire to know what others are doing and voyeurism which means a desire to peek other`s daily life, and mutual surveillance system has been formed by voluntary involvement in surveillance for the purpose of establishing a relationship. The purposes of this study are as follows: 1) analyzing how seeing through the concepts of surveillance and power suggested by M, Foucault, that is, imbalance of visibility as a mechanism of visual surveillance reacts to power, through social media`s location-based service that has been widely spread recently, and 2) suggesting points about power related to digital technology. This study suggests its explanation that social media`s location-based service can be recognized as a new form of surveillance tool which is mediated by power and media against others by experiencing a new form of visual mobility through visibility of media. In addition, this study has its implication in that it, from the critical attitude, raised problems regarding new media`s control power and it could evaluate the trend of social phenomena which have been rapidly changed due to the attribute of digital network.
