In this study, we analyzed the phenomenon, 'dislike of high school students for the major fields of engineering and science' from the perspective of career guidance in high schools. We found the attitude and achievement of students of mathematics and science subject in choosing or not choosing of the science tracks in academic schools. For his/her decision for the tracks in high schools, a students were more likely to get help from their parents or friends. Teachers did not play a major role in this process. For choosing the college major, students were less likely to choose science and engineering fields than the past. Especially students of high academic achievement were less likely to choose these fields. A considerable proportion of students of high academic achievement chose the field of medicine.Presently, the perceived merits of medical occupation such as doctor, dentist, herb doctor rather than the perceived shortcomings of occupations related engineering and science turned out to be main factors, 'dislike of students for the engineering and science fields'. Again, we found the disparity in the career information level of students by family SES and students' achievement which in turn, brings about the disparity in career decision makings. In conclusion, we strongly suggest the improvement of career guidance system in the schools. Specifically creating and distributing better information on educational and occupational careers of each field including science and engineering fields should be done for students.
