사회적 스티그마의 청소년에 대한 영향과 대응

국문 초록 (Abstract)

이 연구는 고프만(Goffman, 1963) 이후 손상된 사회적 정체성으로 불리우는 사회적 스티그마(stigma)가 청소년들에게 얼마나 심각한 영향을 미치고 있으며, 지금까지 어떠한 대응방법이 모색되고 있는가를 문헌분석을 통해서 살펴보았다. 또한 정체성 형성기에 있는 청소년들이 사회적 스티그마로 인해 겪게 되는 극복의지의 상실, 우울증, 사회적 고립, 자살 등과 같은 부정적 영향을 줄이기 위해서 향후 우리 사회에서 청소년과 관련한 스티그마 연구의 필요성을 제기하였다. 특히, 사회적 스티그마에 대한 영향이 클 것으로 예상되는 성소수자 청소년, 십대 미혼모, 가출청소년, 비만청소년, 정신이상 청소년 등의 비주류 청소년집단에 대한 관심과 대응방법에 대한 필요성을 논의하였다.

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

This paper reviewed the literature on stigma in order to identify the effects of social stigma on youth, using the MetalLib of UBC(University of British Columbia) library. Canada has often been defined as possessing a ‘spoiled social identity’ since Erving Goffman's definition (1963) of stigma and the different strategies and interventions that have been used to reduce stigma. Being socially stigmatized, especially in the period of adolescence that forms self-identity, can lead to negative outcomes, including loss at the chances of treatment and recovery, depression, social isolation, suicide, etc., therefore, the studies focused on stigma were proposed for positive development of youth. In addition, stigma is expected to affect non- marginalized groups negatively such as sexual minority youth, teen pregnancy, teenage mothers, street involved youth, obesity youth, and mental illness youth. Future plans to prevent stigma for these groups were also discussed.
