영유아수학교육의 방향과 과제에 대한 고찰 = The Future Directions and Challenges in Early Childhood Mathematics Education

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

The new demands of international competition in the 21st century require a workforce with competent technical and scientific literacy. There is growing interest in early childhood mathematics education, especially in improving the teaching of mathematics in developmentally appropriate ways. This article summarizes the directions for efforts to improve the quality of early childhood mathematics education and suggests implications for effective early childhood mathematics instruction from the review of research on development of mathematical ability of young children and mathematics practices in prekindergarten and kindergarten. Finally, professional development of early childhood educators and future research on the role of teachers in providing effective instruction are addressed.

국문 초록 (Abstract)

정보와 과학기술의 활용이 증가되는 사회에서 보다 수학능력의 활용과 중요성이 증대되고 있다. 이러한 사회적 변화와 요구에 부응하는 영유아 수학교육의 방향과 질 높은 영유아 수학교육을 위한 구체적 방안과 과제를 제시하고자 하였다. 따라서 본고에서는 영유아 수학교육의 사회적 요구와 동향을 살펴보고, 영유아 수학교육의 접근에 대한 논쟁점과 도출된 함의를 토대로 미래 영유아 수학교육의 방향을 제시하였으며, 이를 기초로 추후 영유아 수학교육의 질적 향상을 위한 과제를 조명해 보고자 하였다.
