어린이 신문 사진뉴스의 장르별 특징과 접근 방식에 관한 연구 -소년한국일보와 소년조선일보를 중심으로- = A Study on Characteristics of Photographic News Reporting and Approaching Method of Children`s Newspaper -Centering on Kids Hankook and Kids Chosun-

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

This study conducted a content analysis of 1,223 photographs published in two children`s newspapers for twelve months in 2009. The purpose of this study is to examine the characteristics of photographic news reporting genres and photographic approaches whether photographers for a children`s newspaper use descriptive method or interpretative one. This study found out that most often published photographic genres in the children`s newspapers are general news and feature. Since most of feature photography tend to adopt interpretative methods in reporting, this shows that photographs in children`s newspaper has some tendency of reporter`s own interpretation. However, in terms of hierarchy of news photographs, informational photographs are published more often than graphically or emotionally appealing photographs and intimate photographs. Similar results of composition and point of view show that most of picture news tend to show descriptive approach rather than interpretative one. This study shows a very similar result of regular daily newspaper photographic reporting which shows Korean photojournalists usually strictly adhere to descriptive methods rather than according to their own interpretations. Especially, children`s newspaper tend to publish more informational photographs than interpretative ones since it usually publishes more pictures of education, science, nature and so on.
