생태적 지속가능성의 실천적 의미에 대한 연구 = A study on the practical meaning of ecological sustainability

국문 초록 (Abstract)

지속가능성의 개념을 규정하기 위해서, 지속가능성 개념의 등장 배경을 역사적 맥락에서 살펴보고 ‘지속가능성’과 ‘발전’ 개념을 다각도로 분석하여 그 구분을 명확히 하도록 해 보았다. 이에 따라 발전을 보는 두 가지 패러다임을 비교하였는데 여전히 인간중심주의적인 시각이 그 바탕에 있다는 한계가 있었다. 지속가능성이란 시간적 계속과 유지가능성을 내포하고 있는 개념이라는 점에서 그 시간 관련성은 더욱 명백하다. 그러므로 지속가능성의 시간 틀은 지속가능성을 현재 상태의 유지라는 측면에서 보느냐 아니면 현 상태에서 긍정적인 변화로 보느냐에 따라 그 의미가 달라진다 하겠다. 생태적 지속가능성은 존재, 존재의 본질, 시간, 생태적 관련성을 기본적인 요소로 갖는다. 지속가능한 사회를 인간 중심적인 관점에서 논의하는 것은 이미 그 한계를 드러낼 수밖에 없을 것이다. 따라서 이러한 논의들을 고려해 보면, 지속가능성은 크게 자연, 인간, 사회, 경제라는 4 요소의 관계를 전제로 논의되고 있음을 알 수 있다. 즉 인간의 지속가능성, 사회의 지속가능성, 경제의 지속가능성이 서로 밀접하게 작용하면서 그 토대에 자연의 지속가능성이 위치하고 있는 개념구조로 이해되어야 한다. 지속가능성의 시간 틀은 지속가능성을 현재 상태의 유지라는 측면에서 보느냐 아니면 현 상태에서 긍정적인 변화로 보느냐에 따라 그 의미가 달라진다 하겠다. 존재의 본질과 존재의 현상 사이의 관계에서 지속가능성은 현상의 유지까지 포함하고 있지는 않을 것이며, 존재의 본질 그리고 존재 관계의 유지에 초점을 맞춰야 한다. 존재의 본질과 그 본질의 실현을 하고자 하는 존재의 속성에 대한 아리스토텔레스적인 존재론에 근거해서 생태적 지속가능성 개념을 이해해야 할 것이다. 또한 지속가능성에 대한 가치판단은 존재의 비존재에 대한 우월성에 기초해있다. 인간 삶의 여러 측면에서 제기되는 지속가능성은 21세기의 중요한 화두가 되고 있다. 다양한 지속가능성의 가장 일반적인 공통점은 자연이나 생태계와의 관계를 전제로 하고 있다는 점이고, 이런 의미에서 환경윤리교육에서 지속가능성은 환경문제에서 제기되는 다양한 당위적 요청들을 정당화하는데 매우 중요한 역할을 수행할 것이다.

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

The basic factors of ecological sustainability are existence, nature of existence, time and ecological relevance. It is nothing but revealing the limits for us to discuss the sustainable society from the anthropocehtric viewpoint. Therefore, in consideration of these discussions, it may be recognized that the sustainanility can be discussed on the premise of relationship among the 4 factors at large, such as the nature, human beings, society and economy. In short, it shall be understood as a conceptional structure, on which the natural sustainability is located, as the human sustainability, social sustainability and the economic sustainability are interacting closely. The meaning of time framework of sustainability varies according to whether the sustainability is regarded as maintaining a present status, or a positive change in the present status. The sustainability in a relationship between a nature and phenomenon of existence would not include the maintaining present status, so it shall be focused on the nauture of existence and the relationship of existence. Based on the Aristotle`s ontology as to the nature of existence and the attribute which tries to realize the nature, the concept of ecological sustainability shall be comprehended. And also, the value judgment as to the sustainability is based on the superiority of existence over nonexistence. The sustaiability raised in many aspects of human life has become an important topic in the 21st century. What the various sustainabilities have in common is that it has taken the relationships of nature or ecological system as the premise. For this reason, the sustainability in environmental ethics education is expected to play a very important role in justifying the various and unavoidable requests raised in environmental ethics.
