문화공간 조성을 활용한 선진 도시재생 성공사례 비교 연구 = 밴쿠버 그랜빌아일랜드와 베를린 쿨트어브로이어 사례를 중심으로

This paper is for showing the way to revitalize urban spaces in decline and the role of the public for the urban regeneration by analyzing successful overseas cases where wasted industrial areas in cities are integrated with an important factor, a culture. This study classified urban regeneration cases according to the past facilities cities have had and focused on the fact that lots of cities had developed in the stream of the industrialization. We therefore introduced Granville Island and KulturBrauerei because these two cases present the excellent change from the past industrial establishments to the space for the culture and the leisure. On the process of the urban regeneration, they tried to keep the exterior of the past buildings unchanged, secure public interests, and create an open space for the cultural interchange on the center of the city. It can be said that the combination of these efforts help cities improve the quality of life and maximize their uniqueness. If we take the fact that many industrial facilities need the regeneration and citizens demand cultural services, today it is the right time for preparing the alteration from dumped industrial areas to city spaces for culture services.
