The purpose of this study was to develop a practical instructional supervision model for inservice and preservice teacher training. The following specific questions were raised to achieve the purpose of the study: 1) Why instructional supervision is needed in school teaching? 2) What are the characteristics and elements of instructional supervision? 3) What is an appropriate instructional supervision model in school situation?
This study was carried out mainly through reviewing the literature and documents in the theory of instructional and/or clinical supervision as well as its practical applications. In doing so, the approach of clinical supervision and instructional theories were utilized as a basis for the design of an integrated instructional supervision model.
The components and features of the designed model as the result of this study were;
1) Instructional supervision was defined as a subcategory of a general supervision, but its goal was focused in improvement of teachers' teaching performance and teaching techniques.
2) Process and main activities of instructional supervision in the designed model were specified into the four steps: Preobservation, Observation, Anlaysis of data and Planning for supervisory conference, and supervision conference.
3) The purposes, core-activities and considerations in each step of the model were derived and organized.
4) Rapport between supervisor and teacher was emphasized during the whole steps in the model.
