Human are social beings living together not alone, and therefore safe and positive environments should be provided to form smooth interaction by developing social ability from babyhood to be a social member. Among the environments, music stabilizes human, removes children`s stress due to its environment making rich, and expresses emotion. This study aimed to look into the effects of Dalcroze Eurhythmics activities among music activities on children`s social and emotional development. The question of the study according to its aim is how Eurhythmics activities affect children`s social and emotional development. The subjects of the study were 5-year old 40 children in two classes of the M annex kindergarten in K, Gyeonggi-do. Among them, 20 children of a class were selected as the test group while 20children of the other class were selected as the control group. The test group performed Eurhythmics activities while the control group did general music activities. The measurement tool of children`s social and emotional development used in the study was Lee gyeng-hee`s modified social and emotional development scale designed by KIRBS(Heo Hyung-deung, 1978). It had total 60 questions and children checked them under the teacher`s observation. The contents could be categorized into 6 such as reliance on teachers, children`s internal control, internal control about other children, children`s stability, children`s achievement motivation, and children`s curiosity. Each category consisted of 10 questions that were able for teachers to easily understand and check. For the data analysis, it examined the average difference between two groups and conducted T-test and F-test to know if the difference was significant. The results of the study are as follows. Eurhythmics activities positively affected reliance on teachers, children`s internal control, internal control about other children, children`s stability, children`s achievement motivation, and children`s curiosity. According to each factor, reliance on teachers was to examine independence to solve problems and children could raise problem-solving skills through Eurhythmics activities. Children`s internal control showed there was difference in both test and control groups, but the group with Eurhythmics activities showed larger internal control. Internal control about other children was most important to social development, and the two groups showed difference but the group with Eurhythmics activities had higher sociality taking care of peer friends and getting along together. As important factor for emotional development, children`s stability and achievement motivation seems to affect learning satisfaction in the future due to children`s comfortable life and their concentration, and the children will grow up as a social member with leadership. Children`s curiosity and inquiry to solve problems will play a role to promote Eurhythmics activities that make children grow up to be a man with creative and innovative thought of global era. The result of the study is meaningful in that it verified the effects of Eurhythmics activities on children`s social and emotional development, and proposed the effective methods.
