유아를 위한 다문화 교육의 새로운 방향성 탐색 = Searching a New Direction of Multicultural Education for Young Children

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

This paper aims to introduce a new direction to the multicultural education in early childhood education. It will be done through the understanding of diverse perspectives of multicultural education and unequal relationships between cultures. The body of this paper consists of three sections: (1) Reviewing the previous studies of multicultural education and explaining the philosophical backgrounds and differences of three paradigms (2) Addressing unequal cultural relations, which are embedded in the multicultural society; and (3) Suggesting a critical multicultural education perspective to early childhood education. This critical multicultural education can be an alternative, which can overcome the limitations of the typical Korean approach to multicultural education. The suggested foundation of this new approach to multicultural education should move beyond "respecting cultural diversity" to critically addressing issues of unequal relations.

국문 초록 (Abstract)

본 연구는 다문화교육에 영향을 미쳐온 다양한 관점들과 다문화 안에 내재된 문화들 사이의 우열관계에 대한 이해를 토대로 유아를 위한 다문화 교육에 새로운 방향성을 소개하고자 한다. 본문은 다음과 같이 세부분으로 나누어진다. (1)다문화 교육에 접근하는 선행 연구들의 검토와 기본적인 세 가지 패러다임의 철학적 배경과 차이점을 제시하고 (2) 다문화 안에 내재한 문화들 사이의 우열관계를 설명하고 (3) 이를 토대로 유아를 위한 다문화 교육에 비판적 다문화 교육의 관점을 적용하고자 한다. 비판적인 다문화 교육의 관점은 한국의 전형적인 다문화 교육이 가지고 있는 한계점을 극복할 대안이 될 수 있다. 본 논문에서 제시하는 다문화 교육은 문화의 다양성을 존중하는 것을 넘어서 문화들 사이에 내재된 우열관계를 극복하는 방향으로 나아간다. 다문화 교육은 보다 평등하고 정의로운 사회를 위한 노력이며 우리 모두를 위한 상생의 과정이다.
