The purpose of this study is to find out the management for improvement of special education support centers. To establish this purpose, the focus group interview of 10 staffs of 8 centers and 10 special education teachers of schools in Seoul, Gyeonggi-do and Incheon was applied to this study.
As a result of detailed qualitative analysis of interview, two categories, to establish the basis of center and to make the cooperation system were found. The four sub categories of to establish the basis of center were (1) to expand the publicity about special education support centers, (2) to find out the support needs of special education teachers of schools, (3) to strengthen the capabilities of staffs and teachers of centers, (4) to establish the efficient administrative system of centers. The two sub categories of to make the cooperation system of centers were (1) to expand the cooperation system with special education teachers, (2) to use local resources and cooperate with relevant institutions and professionals.
To improve the management of centers more efficiently, the following efforts will be needed. First, the publicity about centers will be needed. Second, the system to support students with disabilities of various Inclusion settings through the lifetime will be needed. Third, the experienced special education teachers will be needed to be stationed in the centers. Fourth, special education support centers should use local resources and cooperate with institutions and professionals of community. Fifth, the school inspectors should admit the autonomy of centers and support more actively. Last, the special education teachers should be cooperative with centers.
