〈임꺽정〉의 ‘양가성’ 고찰

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

〈Im, Geo-Jung〉 has effectively settled a conflict between the aristocratic class and the commoners, as with the case with Lee, Jang-Gon, an aristocrat and commoner, and Yang, Ju-Pal who was a commoner but more than an aristocrat. The protagonist, Im, Geo-Jung shows the potential and healthiness of the people by his ambivalent personality. So, it was naturally showing how inhumane feudalism-based discrimination of classes were, and why it had to inevitably change.
Also, the author, Hong, Myong-hee, the basis of the ambivalence, shows an ambivalent perspective. He was a devotee of folk awareness and owner of aristocratic consciousness at the same time, and a communist and nationalist. The cause for this ambivalent perspective was not only that he was a progressive, open-minded person, but also did not denied his background as an aristocrat, and that his father, who died for the nation was his continuous role model. Therefore, he was able to intermediate the paradox of the time, better than anyone else.
Based on this ambivalence, 〈Im, Geo-Jung〉 was able to pursue the route to liberation, a salvation of the entire Korean people, not biased on any one side under Japanese rule. And it was showing it through the ambivalence of a polyphonic, deviative carnival. In these aspects, 〈Im, Geo-Jung〉, based on an aesthetic sense of people, was a epochal work that opened a new side of folk literature.
