한국어판 에딘버러 산후우울 척도 : 신뢰도와 타당도 = The Edinburgh Postnatal Depression Scale, Korean Version : Reliability and Validity

Objective : To validate the Edinburgh Postnatal Depression Scale(EPDS), a simple and effective 10-items self-report instrument developed to screen postpartum depression, in Korea.
Methods : Data from 148 mothers(mean age±SD=29.6±3.8y) attending in a routine postnatal check-up at 6~8 weeks postpartum were analyzed. All subjects finished EPDS and Beck Depression Inventory(BDI) before a psychologist interviewed them with Scheduled Clinical Interview for DSM-Ⅳ and Hamilton Rating Scale for Depression(HAMD).
Results : Prevalence of depression was 15.6%(major depression : 7.4% ; minor depression : 8.1%). EPDS total scores differed significantly(p＜0.001) between 'not depressed' group(6.1±3.7) and major depression(15.6±2.2) or minor depression(13.4±2.5) group, but did not differ between major and minor depression. Cut-off score of 9.5 was suggested to detect major and minor depression and its sensitivity, specificity and positive predictive value were 100, 78.4 and 46.0%. Best cut-off score for major depression was 12.5(100, 90.5 and 45.8%, respectively). EPDS total scores correlated with BDI(r=0.80) and HAMD(r=0.69) significantly(p＜0.01). Reliability of the Korean version of EPDS was good(α=0.85).
Conclusion : EPDS could be a reliable and valid screening tool for postpartum depression in Korea. Positive predictive value was lower than several other studies done at 8-12 week postpartum.
