한자어 문법 단위와 한자어 교육 = Grammatical Units in Sino-Korean and the Education of Sino-Koreans

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

This paper aimed at grafting the research results of Korean linguistics onto the education of Sino-Koreans. In this respect this is a kind of interdisciplinary study. Firstly we pointed out the problems of current Sino-Korean education which is being performed on the basis of basic Chinese character chosen by the Department of Education. And we tried to differentiate between Sino-Korean education as Korean education and Sino-Korean education as Classical Chinese education. Lastly we presented the direction which Sino-Korean education as Korean vocabulary education has to go after.
The grammar of Sino-Korean can be divided into two-syllable grammar(that of Classical Chinese) and three-syllable grammar(that of Korean) according to the degree of knowledge for Chinese characters. We insist that the approach to Sino-Korean education should consider these two directions. The one is based on the analysis units which analyse Sino-Korean into morpheme units. The other is based on the function units which are elements of synchronic Korean word-formations.
The priority of Sino-Korean education should be given to function units and analysis units are secondary targets of Sino-Korean education. In this considerations the education should take the method of using networks between Sino-Korean words sharing the same morphemes. In order to perform this education successfully, it is necessary to select the right chinese characters on the basis of the correlation between character frequency and word frequency, word formation ability of characters, etc.
