상담학 연구에서 개념도(Concept Mapping)방법의 적용 = Overview of Concept Mapping in Counseling Psychology Research

This article provides an overview of the research approach called concept mapping at conceptual, methodological, and practical levels. Concept mapping is a methodological approach to understanding the concepts that people use to understand and interpret their worlds, which as a whole might be said to stand between qualitative and quantitative method. This method focuses on the phenomenal experiences of participants as idiographic(emic) position rather than nomothetic(etic), but analysis of data is used multivariate statistical methods such as multidimensional scaling and cluster analysis. The process of concept mapping is composed of six stages as the following: (1) preparing for concept mapping, (2) generating the ideas, (3) structuring the statements, (4) concept mapping analysis, (5) interpreting the maps, and (6) using concept mapping and planning. Finally, we discussed the appropriation and usefulness of concept mapping as well as limitation within the research of counseling psychology.

국문 초록 (Abstract)

본 연구의 목적은 개념도(concept mapping)라는 연구방법을 개념적, 방법론적, 그리고 실제적 수준에서 검토하는 데에 있다. 개념도 연구방법은, 사람들이 세계를 이해하고 해석하는데 사용하는 개념을 이해하기 위한 방법론적 접근으로, 질적인 연구와 양적인 연구 사이에 위치해 있는 독특한 방법이다. 즉, 특정 현상에 대한 연구대상의 질적, 주관적 경험을 다차원 척도법과 군집분석이라는 다변량 통계방법을 사용하여 분석하고, 그 결과로서 연구대상들이 어떤 현상에 대해서 지각하는 개념을 시각적으로 제시해 주는 방법이다. 구체적인 연구의 절차는 크게 개념도를 위한 준비, 아이디어의 산출, 구조화, 분석, 그리고 해석의 6단계로 구성되는데, 각 단계에 대해서 선행연구들의 예를 들어 설명하였다. 끝으로, 이를 바탕으로 상담학 연구에서 개념도 연구방법의 적절성과 유용성, 그리고 제한점에 대해 논의하였다.
