보육시설장의 역할 수행 및 요구 조사 = A study on the Role Performance and Demands of Childcare Center Directors

The purpose of this study was to investigate the role and demands of childcare center directors to make suggestions for policies. For the study, a questionnaire on the role performance and demands of childcare center directors was developed and sent to 151 childcare center directors in I city, Gyeonggi province. One hundred four of them completed the questionnaire and they were analyzed by the facility size. The findings were as follows: First, the study revealed that childcare center directors generally showed a positive response about performing their duties but the directors with fewer than 20 children had a great deal of difficulty in performing community-related duties. Second, childcare center directors spent more time in management of younger children and curriculum. Childcare center directors with 21-39 children and more than 40 children also spent more time on financial management and personnel affair, respectively. Third, childcare center directors with fewer than 20 children and 21-39 children gave teachers much support in child-caring. Whereas childcare center directors with 21-39 children and more than 40 children gave teachers much support in event-related tasks. Finally, employing teachers was found to be the biggest difficulty, especially for the directors with fewer than 20 children. Directors of childcare centers with more than 40 children had more difficulty in managing finances.
