The civic Education belongs to the educational theoretical-practical fields which aim to bring up the citizenship. Although being called as ‘civic education’ in the anglo-american zone and as ‘political education’(politische Bildung) in the German one, it has been investigated lively not only in the schooling domain but also in the adult education. This article starts from this general perspectives, and examines the educational-theoretical horizon of the civic education, considering the peculiar context in Korea. In particular, the focus of this article lies in lightening the limits of the civic education in Korean circumstances not only coming from historical-social but also from the differences of social-national development to Western society. For the purpose of the problem solving, this paper defines the characteristics of civic education from the educational-theoretical perspectives and derives the contextual conditions and practical strategies from the Korean situation. Finally, it examines several points at issue and limits of the civic education.
