문자를 이용한 그림책의 표현유형과 의미작용 = The Expression Pattern and Signification of Picture Book through Letters

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

This study was conducted to reconfigure the function and meaning of picture book which symbolizes the letter, and examine the flow of picture book made upon the letters, and thereby find out a variety of expression, application and features of the cases that the letters are symbolized in the picture book.
The change of meaning and expression of letters in the photo book is predicated upon the trend of modern arts which is characterized by heightened interests on education, development of media and diverse formative changes, and the picture books came to require new functions other than the function for learning letters inasmuch as the children started to learn letters much earlier than before. Further, as the range of readers for the picture books got diversified from children to adults, the communication method with readers became to consider emotional communion with readers from conveying the facts only, which represents the transformation into arts that requires active interactions after all.
Nowadays, picture books creates new images through the formativeness of letters, and conveys various concepts through metaphorical expressions. These expressions renders joys and familiarity to the readers motivating them to participate in the interpretation of pictures, and becomes a driving force for smooth communication by sympathizing with readers. That is, the picture book by letters should be illuminated upon the multiple perspectives such as visual aspects and interrelationship between letters and pictures. In addition, the picture books could play a role as an extended aesthetic area of graphic users through this study.

국문 초록 (Abstract)

이 연구는 문자를 이미지로 상징화한 그림책의 기능과 의미를 재조명 하고자, 문자를 중심으로 제작되었던 그림책의 흐름을 살펴 그림책에서 문자가 상징화된 다양한 사례의 표현과 활용 및 특징의 변화를 알아보았다.
그림책에서 글자의 의미와 표현상의 변화는 교육에 대한 높은 관심과 미디어 매체의 발달 그리고 조형상의 다양한 변화를 시도했던 현대예술의 시대적 추세에 따른 것으로, 아이들이 언어를 배우기 시작하는 시점이 빨라지기 시작함에 따라 문자를 이용한 그림책도 기존의 글자 학습을 위한 기능 이외의 새로운 기능을 필요로 하게 된 것이다. 또한 독자층도 어린이부터 어른에 이르기까지 다양해지면서 독자와의 소통을 위한 방법도 사실전달에서 나아가 독자와의 감성적 교감을 고려하게 되었다. 이는 보다 적극적인 상호작용을 요구하는 예술로의 변모를 의미한다.
오늘날 문자를 이용한 그림책은 문자의 조형성을 이용하여 새로운 이미지를 만들어 내거나 은유적 표현을 통해 다양한 개념을 전달한다. 이러한 표현은 독자에게 즐거움과 친근감을 주어 독자가 그림의 해석에 적극적으로 참여하는 동기를 부여하고 작가와 독자와의 교감을 시도함으로써 원활한 커뮤니케이션이 이루어질 수 있는 원동력이 된다. 즉, 문자를 이용한 그림책은 비주얼적인 부분과 함께 글과 그림의 상호관계 등, 복합적인 관점에서 바라보아야 한다. 아울러 이 연구를 통해 그림책이 그래픽 작가들의 확장된 예술 표현의 영역으로서의 역할을 기대할 수 있었다.
