내부고발자의 건강문제에 대한 이해 - 근거이론의 적용 - = Health Problems and Their Cures in Korean Whistleblowers - An Application of Grounded Theory -

국문 초록 (Abstract)

이 연구에서는 내부고발자가 조직의 부정을 공개한 후, 어떠한 건강문제를 경험을 하는가, 이에 따른 반응은 무엇인가를 근거이론(grounded theory) 자료수집 및 분석 방법론의 적용을 통하여 검토하였다. 연구는 매스 미디어를 통해 신분이 공개되고 잘 알려진 9명의 사례를 대상으로 하였고, 자료 수집은 반구조적 설문에 기초한 심층 인터뷰, 관찰 방식을 사용하였다. 범주와 재범주, 비교와 분석, 핵심범주의 결정과 설명 이후에 의료 사회학자, 내부고발자 보호 NGO 활동가, 윤리 전문가들의 자문을 통해 이러한 설명을 비교, 조정하여 자료 분석과 판단의 타당성을 개선하였다. 마지막으로 분석을 통해 발견된 것을 정리하고, 이에 기초해 함축적 의미와 한계를 논의하였다. 이 연구의 기여는 내부고발자의 건강 이슈에 대한 사회적 관심과 정보 수요가 높음에도 불구하고 체계적 연구는 부족하였다는 점에서 연구 공백의 보완을 의미한다. 또 다른 기여는 내부고발자의 보다 온전한 보호제도 마련에 대한 것이다.

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

This paper presents whistleblowers' health problems resulting from disclosing wrongdoings observed within their own organizations and their responding attitudes towards these health problems. Two research questions were asked: what do whistleblowers experience in relation to their health after blowing the whistle? And how do they respond to it? The study employed grounded theory to capture information needed to explicate the process of whistleblowers' injuries to health as well as interactions between health insecurity and whistleblowers' responding attitudes towards it. To collect data, the study used semi-structured interview methods. In the process of collecting the data, the authors followed the procedures that grounded theory suggests, including identifying categories, coding "mentions" of each interviewee into categories, and interpreting the properties and dimensions of the categories, the relationships among them, and the contexts under which they are connected. Lastly, the major findings including a fact that social support, communication, and empathy are important for preventing whistleblowers' health problems were discussed and their implications also suggested. The study hopes to make a contribution to expand the body of knowledge on whistleblowers' experiences related to health problems.
