Focusing on children"s behaviors shown in their early life in preschool, this study intends to find out possible associations between mother"s psychological life position and children"s adaptive behaviors. The purport of this study is to demonstrate how much mother"s psychological life position may have significant effects upon children"s adaptation to preschool, so that it could provide basic data required for parents or nursery tutors to improve children"s adaptation to preschool environment.
This study applied a questionnaire survey to children"s (at full age 3 and 4) and their mothers enrolled at public/private kindergartens and local/private day care centers in Seoul and Gyeonggi metropolitan area. And total 324 sheets of questionnaire were used for final data analysis.
The results of this study can be summed up as follows:
First, in view of variables affecting mother"s psychological life position, it was found that the higher educational career of mother, the higher domestic economic level and working mothers lead to the more positive life position of mother.
Second, in view of variables affecting infants" early adaptation to preschool, it was found that girls are more likely to adapt themselves to preschool than boys. And it was noted that the longer they have previous experiences in preschool and the higher their domestic economic level lead to better early adaptation to preschool.
Third, in view of possible associations between mother"s psychological life position and children"s early adaptation to preschool, it was found that the more positive life position of mother has more positive effects on improving sociability, emotional conditions in preschool, peer-to-peer adaptation, ego state, and adaptation to daily routines in preschool than any other type of psychological life position.
Hence, this study give a suggestion that the better adaptability of children"s to preschool requires recognizing positive effects of mother"s positive life position upon children"s adaptive development, and mother"s efforts for building up her own personality.
