정보화 교육을 통한 노인 임파워먼트의 모색 = The use of IT education for the empowerment of older adults

국문 초록 (Abstract)

본 연구는 정보화사회에서 디지털 디바이드의 심화로 점점 정보접근에서 소외되고 고립되어 사회의 주류로부터 멀어져 무력화되고 있는 노인들의 임파워먼트를 모색하기 위한 방법의 하나로 정보화 교육의 가능성을 알아보았다. 노인에게 있어서 컴퓨터와 인터넷에 대한 접근은 오락, 사회화, 교육 및 일상생활의 기능을 향상시키는 효과뿐 아니라 심리적으로 자아존중감, 복지감 및 삶에 대한 만족도를 증진한다. 노인들은 인터넷을 통해 가족, 친지 및 전 세계와 저렴하게 상호작용을 할 수 있으므로 사회성이 함양된다. 또한 컴퓨터 학습은 노인들에게 인지적, 정신적, 신체적, 정신적 활동에 도전적 과제를 제공함으로써 학습능력을 고양시킨다. 더 나아가 컴퓨터는 장애 및 질병으로 활동이 제한되고 의존성이 높아진 노인들의 장애극복과 독립적 삶의 추구에 대한 커다란 잠재력을 갖는다. 쇠퇴하는 기능과 역할상실, 지위의 하락으로 현대사회에서 동등한 시민으로서의 권리를 행사하지 못해온 노인들에게 컴퓨터는 새로운 시민권은 물론 세상과 연결되는 중요한 통로가 된다. 본 연구에서는 노인 정보화 교육이 일찍 시작된 외국의 최근 선행연구를 중심으로 IT 교육이 노인에게 제공하는 다양한 차원의 유익함을 분석하고 노인의 삶의 질 향상에 미치는 영향에 대해 논의하였다. 또한 무력하고 소외된 노인집단의 임파워먼트를 위해 정보화 교육이 갖는 잠재력을 알아보았다. 아울러 성공적인 외국의 노인 컴퓨터 교육 프로젝트들을 소개하여 우리 나라 노인 정보화 교육의 도입가능성을 살펴보았다.

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

This paper explores the possibility of adopting IT education and training for facilitating the empowerment of older adults. As older people experience discrimination in society and in the workplace, they need to be empowered to advocate their rights as equal citizens. They need to be computer literate to have better access to a more convenient life, healthier psychological well-being, and more secure employment. Computers and the Internet provide vast amount of information and database to which older adults have not had an access yet. They enhance everyday life of older adults by not only providing new ways of amusement but also widening social contacts with family members, friends and the world. Moreover, computers with diverse technological devices play important functions in assisting the disadvantaged elderly with disabilities or those who are confined to home to become more independent. Therefore, provision of appropriate IT education and training for older adults will be an effective way of empowering older adults to realize their situations and to achieve social inclusion with a full citizenship. Moreover, some successful IT education and training projects in developed countries were introduced to find implications for IT education for older adults in Korea.
