평생학습사회에서의 고등교육의 의미와 대학의 위상전환 = Meaning of Higher Education in Lifelong Learning Societies

국문 초록 (Abstract)

  평생학습사회는 새로운 학습생태학적 조건으로서 교육생태환경의 변화를 수반한다. 그 안에서 대학은 새로운 환경변화에 적응하고 진화하기 위하여 스스로의 존재양식을 재구성해나간다. 연구자들은 이 논문에서 한국의 대학들이 이러한 교육환경의 근본적 변화 양상을 정확히 읽고 있지 못하고 있다는 문제와 함께 그러한 변화에 대한 대처방식을 개발하지 못하고 있다는 점을 지적한다. 본 논문은 평생학습사회에서의 대학의 역할 및 이 둘 간의 관계적 위상을 설정하기 위한 연구과제로서 평생학습사회라는 새로운 거시학습환경의 특징을 검토하고, 이러한 환경변화에 대해 대학이 결코 유리한 위치에 있지 않다는 점을 지적한다. 연구자들이 보기에 평생학습사회에서는 학습사회의 구조를 실현해 줄 적합한 고등교육체제를 필요로 하는데, 그것은 ‘대학’이라는 근대적 고등교육체제의 특성 가운데 상당 부분의 변화를 내부적으로 요청하는 것이며, 결코 평생교육원을 운영하는 등의 부수적 작업만으로 만족될 수 없는 것이라는 점을 부각시킨다. 평생학습사회의 고등교육기관으로 거듭나기 위하여 대학은 대학의 의미와 지평을 과감히 넓히는 작업과 함께, 보편고등교육시대의 대학교육을 준비해가면서, 후기역사시대와 디지털혁명이 예고하는 새로운 맥락에서의 교육적 인간상에 대한 탐구를 전개해야 한다.

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

  The New Era of Lifelong Learning Society comes to our everyday lives. The fundamental conditions of lifelong learning society changes its educational ecology, under which the universities, as a kind of higher education species, are required to adjust and re-conceptualize their identities with the engine of self-initiated innovation.
  In this paper, the researchers tried to ask what the lifelong learning society is, and how it will be going to re-shape the macro social learning environments. We, in this paper, argued that the ‘reshaping of the emerging new reality’ will be necessary to the remaining universities to settle the new home in the ecological and environmental restructuring. We also examined the history of the universities and found out that ‘university’ itself had been equipped with ideas and ideologies that fatally doomed to fail in the new adjustment in the conditional changes, so called, “lifelong learning society”, if not revolutionizing itself with totally new concept. The lifelong learning society needs an appropriate higher education system which can support its learning structure, and we strongly argued that current university system does not fit into the newly required higher education system for the next generation. The university, as one mode of higher education must boldly expand its meaning and borders and must closely re-examine all the possibilities to re-create the vision and missions to survive under the new learning environment of lifelong learning society.
