The purpose of this study was to measure fundamental frequency of 222 normal Korean adults in oral reading. The first sentence of “Sanchaek” passage (Jeong, 1993) was used to collect the oral reading sample. The results were as follows: Firstly, the mean fundamental frequency of males was 125.66Hz (SD: 16.22), and that of females was 201.83Hz (SD: 22.65). Secondly, multiple comparisons by age group in male subjects showed a significant difference in only 1 group. That is, they showed no significant difference from their 10s through 50s, but the subjects in their 60s showed a significant increase in the fundamental frequency. Finally, multiple comparisons by age group in female subjects showed a significant difference in nearly every groups compared. In addition, the female subjects in their 40s and older showed a decrease in fundamental frequency as their age increased.
