      The parable of the Good Samaritan is an answer to the question what must Ido to inherit the eternal life9 This article aims to examine Luke 10 :25-35in the light of Mediterranean social context and audience. What is theintention of Luke to use a Lawyer to be the disputer of Jesus? If theSamaritan was one who did the right thing to inherit the eternal life, then,is there any intention of religious pluralism m the story9 The firstquestion deals with the issue of the orthodox leadership in Israel. TheLawyer was an official teacher of a mainstream religion in Israel andsupposes to represent the orthodox teaching of the Scripture However, Jesusthrough the parable of a Good Samaritan shows that it is not correctconfession, but practical faith that is necessary to inherit eternal life.The second question can be answered with the symbolism of the goodSamaritan The intention of the parable is not to pronounce religiouspluralism. In the parable, Jesus intends to identify the priest and Levite(the official leaders in Israel) with the Lawyer whilst Jesus (the unknownand peripheral figure in Judaism) who helps sinners and outcasts is theSamaritan helping the needy person.
