전통미술교육에 대한 실태조사 연구 = A Survey on the Korean Traditional Art Education

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

When we look at the art lesson plans and methods in art textbooks for elementary and secondary schools developed by the 7th national art curriculum we find the contents and methods are subtlely adopted from foreign art education theories and practices. In fact, the teaching and learning plans for Korean traditional art found in elementary and secondary art textbooks contain some problems. The major problem is that the western teaching and learning plans and methods are applied to Korean art textbook without appropriate modification. It is very important to develop Korean teaching and learning plans based on principles, values, meanings, and symbols of Korean traditional art. In the current art textbooks, Korean traditional art does not have consistency in how to teach students. Although Korean traditional art works are showed in each chapter of the text, the descriptions of details are very short and fragmented. In addition, the texts do not give the students a complete information regarding the art works. Students often are not sure how to use traditional materials in their art class. Also, as the art teachers face difficulties in teaching Korean traditional art, it's not easy for the students to learn from their teachers.
In this study, we closely examined the goals, contents and teaching methods of Korean traditional art in elementary and secondary art textbooks. In addition, we and analyzed whether they are properly well organized. In the art textbooks, there are many art lesson plans on painting, sculpture, craft, calligraphy, and architecture along with Korean traditional art.
This is a survey research collecting data with questionnaires. We used two versions of questionnaire; one for students and the other for teachers asking on teaching and learning plans for Korean traditional art. the participants were 888 elementary and secondary students and 308 elementary and secondary teachers from all over the country. The findings and implications for teachers and curriculum developers are provided.

국문 초록 (Abstract)

미술과 수업에서 전통미술의 학습은 미래세대 세계문화의 주역으로 살아갈 우리 학생들에게 미술·문화적 정체성을 심어주고 민족문화를 바탕으로 한 한국문화의 기초적 토양을 마련해 주기 위함이다. 학교미술교육이 시작된 이래로 미술과 교육은 서구적 미술이론과 조형의식에 힘입어 서구적인 매체와 교육이론들을 토대로 교육되어 왔다. 따라서 우리의 전통미술문화 역시 서구적인 미술문화의 잣대로 재단하고 평가하고 교육되어 왔기 때문에 전통미술이 갖고 있는 조형세계의 본질에 접근하는 것은 용이하지가 않다. 초·중등 미술교과서에서 보여 지는 전통미술에 대한 학습방법은 전반적으로 전통미술품을 단편적으로 소개하고 안내하는데 그치고 있다. 전통미술에는 회화, 조각, 공예, 서예, 건축, 조경 등 여러 영역이 있지만 미술과 수업에서 다루어지는 학습활동들은 극히 제한적·부분적으로 행해지고 있어 학습자가 요구하는 내실 있는 교육이 요구되어지고 있다. 이 연구에서는 초·중등 학생들과 교사들을 대상으로 설문지 조사를 통해 전통미술수업의 현황과 실태, 문제점들을 분석하고 이를 기초로 전통미술 교육의 방향을 제시하고자 한다.
