Adequate compensation is necessary in order to enable the lawyer to serve his client effectively and to preserve the integrity and independence of the profession. In order to escape fee disputes, it is desirable that a lawyer reaches a clear written agreement with his client as soon as feasible after he has been employed. A lawyer can be disciplined for charging too much, and courts have inherent authority to reduce excessive fees.
