방송 저널리스트의 공정성 인식 연구

This study aims at investigating broadcasting journalism fairness through the analysis of broadcasting journalists’ perception on journalism fairness. To achieve this purpose, this study conducted a survey that both news reporters and program directors participated in. The survey questionnaires are based on various previous researches regarding this topic.
According to the results of 24 survey questions, six factors-factualness, balance, impartiality, contextualization, diversification and autonomy-are believed to affect the fairness perception of broadcasting journalists. Amongst these six, news reporters show a higher tendency for balance, impartiality factors, whereas program directors impose more importance on factualness and contextualization factors. This is because news reporters adhere to the conventional journalism principal, so to speak, objectively delivering facts, which requires balance, impartiality, while program directors deal largely with relatively long programs, which requires factualness and contextualization to keep consistency throughout a whole program.
The different perception of fairness between the two journalist groups has an inevitable relation with journalism fairness debates that Korean broadcasting journalism faces. Therefore, there is an urgent need to narrow the gap between the two groups, and this can be achieved only through mutual understanding and communications by journalists themselves. Furthermore, developing integrated programs that include both news reporter and program director journalism can be a good alternative in resolving journalism fairness debates.
