Multisource Feedback or 360-Degree Feedback, a new personnel management method, is rapidly being introduced to public sectors in Korea. This study of 2,115 randomly selected police officers in Korea examines police officers' attitudes toward the introduction of Multisource Feedback in the personnel management.
This study finds that most police officers are in favor of the introduction of multisource feedback personnel management system. This is because there have been lots of distrusts of the current promotion system, especially for misleading chief leadership in police personnel management. Among suprior, peer and subordinate appraisals, this study finds that the peer group appraisal is foremost important since peer group has the capability of objective appraisal of candidates.
It is, however, a matter of political decision whether the government decides the full introduction of multisource feedback in the quasi-coercive organization and the extent to which classes of police officers are possibly applied to those political decision. Nonetheless, this study stresses the importance and the urgency for the introduction of multisource feedback in policy promotion system because it has been criticized for its not being transparency and objectivity.
