The purpose of this study is to identify some factors which have influence on neighborhood-related social capital. For that purpose, this study primarily focuses on three types of neighborhood-related social capital: informal social ties with neighbors, participation on neighborhood organization, and trust on neighbors. As explanatory variables, perceived neighborhood disorder, neighborhood poverty, and other socio-demographic variables are included in a causal model. For an empirical study, we select 828 subjects from 16 neighborhoods in Daejeon City as final sample, and carry out statistical analysis by applying hierarchical linear model. The results show that neighborhood poverty does not affect neighborhood-related social capital under the consideration of other sociodemographic variables, which implies there is no neighborhood effect. On the other hand, perceived neighborhood disorder appears to consistently have statistically significant influence on three types of social capital. Gender and age are also important sociodemographic variables to affect three types of social capital. Type and period of residence, and housing ownership appear to have statistically significant influence respectively on the different kind of social capital. The conclusion provides some implications of the research results and future research direction.
