For the 21st century and in preparation for a unified Korea, a new building for the National Museum of Korea is under construction. There are, However, too many blanks in the history of the Museum in Korea. For example, the chronicle of the first museum (Yi Royal Household Museum in Changgyong Palace) is not yet completed. The purpose of this paper si to shed light on and find solutions to some problems concerning the chronicle of the Yi Royal Household Museum. According to the authentic records, this museum was opened to the public on the 1st of November in 1909. It belonged to the Office of the Yi Royal Household which the Japanese had established after their annexation of Korea. The catalogue of collections was published three times by the Office in the period from 1912 to 1933. On the 5th of June in 1938 this museum was reorganized as the Art Museum of the Yi Royal Household and moved into the newly built facilities in the Toksu Palace. And after the museum was again reorganized as the Toksu Palace Museum in March 1946. Finally the Toksu Palace Museum was annexed to the National Museum of korea in May 1969. But this paper has not Succeed in elucidating all problems because of the lack of studies on the Office of the Yi Royal Household Which administered the museum. It is therefore urgent that we should encourage further studies on it for a More complete chronicle of the Yi Royal Household Museum.
