This paper explored the nature of reading in the eyes of the learning theory of social constructivism. The nature consists of the concept and the object of reading in this paper. Traditionally, the concept of reading was seen as activities of information gathering or problem solving and the object as collecting information or comprehension of a text. But as the learning theory of social constructivism, the concept is defined as the process of meaningful others, the object as the internalization of knowledgeable others. Text in reading functions knowledgeable other for supporting learners in `Learning space` of the learning theory of social constructivism. Therefore, this paper viewed the concept of reading as collecting information of text and the object as the internalization of knowledgeable others
