스포츠 참여에 미치는 문화자본의 영향 - 스키와 골프 참여를 중심으로 - = The Effect of Cultual Capital on Sports Activities

This study is to investigate participants in sport activities from the perspective of Pierre Bourdieu's 'Cultural Capital theory', to explore the cultural capital's effect on, and furthermore to contend the importance of cultural capital in participating sports activities.
For this purpose, the survey was conducted to test the influence of cultural capital on ski and golf activities to the employees working at the office in Seoul. For the empirical analysis, negative binominal regression model was applied under the control of such variables as economic capital, sex, age and birth region. In particular, cultural capital was measured both indirectly and directly. The result of analysis showed that cultural capital made an statistically significant influence indirectly and directly. This result implied that cultural capital as well as economic one could be determinants of sports activities. It also suggested that the influence of cultural capital would be bigger considering sports cost getting lowering from now on.

국문 초록 (Abstract)

본 연구는 문화자본의 보유정도를 간접적인 방법뿐만 아니라 직접적인 방법으로 측정하여, 문화자본이 스포츠 참여, 특히 스키와 골프 참여에 미치는 영향을 규명하고자 시행되었다. 이를 위한 연구 대상으로는 수도권 지역 내 직장인 성인 남녀가 선정되었으며, 스포츠 참여에 미치는 문화자본의 영향력을 검증하기 위해서는 경제자본, 성별, 연령, 출신지역을 통제한 후 음이항 회귀모형을 적용하였다. 이때 문화자본의 간접 측정은 부모의 학력(상속된 문화자본)과 본인의 학력(획득된 문화자본)을 통하여, 그리고 문화자본의 직접 측정은 부모의 영향을 받아서 나타난 본인의 문화예술에 대한 관심, 문화예술 활동, 문화예술에 대한 정보 획득(상속된 문화자본)을 통하여 행하여졌다. 분석결과 문화자본은, 그 형태가 간접측정에 의한 것이든 직접측정에 의한 것이든, 스포츠 참여에 통계적으로 유의한 영향을 주는 것으로 나타났다. 특히, 획득된 문화자본이 스포츠 활동 참여에 미치는 영향은 상속된 문화자본이(간접적 측정이든 직접적 측정이든) 스포츠 활동 참여에 미치는 영향보다 큰 것으로 나타났다. 이는 기존의 경제자본뿐만 아니라 문화자본이 스포츠 참여에 결정적인 영향을 미친다고 하는 사회학적 의의를 내포하고 있을 뿐만 아니라, 서구에 비하여 어린 시절 가정 내에서 문화적 취향이나 성향을 습득할 수 있는 기회가 상대적으로 적었던 우리사회의 경우 초기 사회화 과정(가정교육) 보다는 공식적인 교육을 통한 이차 사회화 과정(학교 교육)이 주로 스포츠 활동 참여를 결정하는 중요한 요인이라고 하는 것을 나타내는 것이라고 할 수 있을 것이다.
