Childcare in Korea has been actively developed since the establishment of the Childcare Act in 1991. Based on its grassroots built during the last decade, childcare in Korea has currently been moving into a stage of new stability. In particular, childcare faces new tasks and challenges in order to meet various societal and familial needs in the 21st century.
The purpose of this paper is to review and evaluate major changes, outcomes, and problems of childcare policies in Korea. In addition, by focusing on the problems addressed, future directions and plans for childcare based on the clients point of view are suggested.
