Fashion was an important element for the surrealists art work functioning as a metaphor or a sign of anti-art movement against the orthodox high-art. pieties. They believed that body was a place for artistic expression out of pure, unmitigated, almost divine inspiration rather than the couturrier's craft.
The important idea of surrealism's expression was the interpretation of the body. Denied its integrity by dream interpretation and other psychological insights cognitively known to the early surrealists and frequently present in their work, the interpretation of the body became an abiding surrealist premise.
Taking inspiration from the biomorphic imagery, the contemporary designers indulge in a play of forms the borders on the abstract.
In other words, surrealism encouraged a level of play, perversity and anarchic excess that has come to distinguish a certain transgressive strain in fashion design both avant-garde and haute couture.
The purposes of this study are (1) to find out how the fashion is related to the surealism art by analysing its interpretation of the body, (2) to develop the creative ideas for contemporary fashion design by understanding more about the surrealism's application of the body in its art work.
