한국의 민주화 이행과정에 관한 연구 = A Study on Developmental Process of Korean Democratization

국문 초록 (Abstract)

본 연구는 한국의 민주화 이행과정을 고찰하였다. 먼저 한국 민주화 이행에 촉진적 사회변화 는 산업화로 인한 경제발전에 의한 구조적 변화와 민주화를 위한 정치집단들간의 역할에 비롯되었다. 다양한 정치적·사회 경제적 요인 중에서도 주로 도시화와 교육기회의 증가 및 폭넓은 중산층의 형성이 한국 민주화 이행의 촉진적 사회요인으로 보았다. 다음으로 정치행위자들의 상호작용에서는 학생세력과 군부세력의 상호작용을 중점적으로 고찰하였다. 이어 한국의 민주화 이행 과정에서 그 특성은 군부권위주의 체제로부터 민주주의 체제로 옮겨가는 과정으로 요약될 수 있고, 한국 민주화 이행의 유형은 타협 또는 협약에 의한 민주화 이행 및 안정적·평화적 측면을 강하게 나타낸 것으로 파악되었다. 따라서 한국의 민주주의가 이러한 과정을 통해 상당한 정도의 발전이 있지만, 보다 성숙한 제도로 자리잡기 위해 아직도 많은 개혁의 과제들이 남아있으므로, 여전히 정치제도·경제·사회·문화적 측면에서 개선을 위한 많은 노력이 요구된다.

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

This study examines the developmental process of Korean democratization. The social changes to facilitate the developmental process of Korean democratization were derived from the structural changes due to industrialization and economic development and the roles of political groups to democratize Korea. Of various political and socio-economic factors, this study mainly considers urbanization, the increase of education, and the wide formation of the middle class as the facilitating social factor to develop into the democratization. This study also examines the interaction of political movers, in particular, the interaction between student forces and militarists. The characteristics of the developmental process of Korean democratization may be summarized into the process in which the power was shifted from military authoritarian regimes to democratic regimes. Also, this study identified that the characteristics in the developmental process of Korean democratization strongly feature democratization by compromise or agreement and stabilized and peaceful aspects. Nonetheless the substantial developments of Korean democracy through the process, there still remain many tasks of reformation in order to root the democracy as more mature system in Korea. Accordingly, much more efforts are required for further improvements in terms of political system, and economic, social and cultural aspects.
