사설의 논증적 분석: 툴민의 논증이론과 반 다이크의 텍스트 이론간의 접합과 논거-토포스 분석의 방법

국문 초록 (Abstract)

논문의 목적은 툴민의 논증이론이 가지고 있는 유용성과 합리성을 훼손하지 않고 그의 이론을 확대·적용하는 데 있다.툴민의 논증 구조는 한 문장 또는 하나의 논증을 분석하는데는 잘 적용될 수 있지만, 사설과 같은 논증의 연쇄로 구성된 논증문에는 잘 적용이 되지 않는다. 따라서 사설과 같은 논증문을 유기적인 텍스트로 분석할 수 있는 분석틀을 구성할 필요가 있다. 이러한 분석틀을 구성하기 위해서 이 논문에서는 텍스트의 유기적 구조를 강조하는 반 다이크의 텍스트 이론과 툴민의 논증이론을 접합하고자 한다.이와 같은 분석은 비평으로서의 비판적 사고와 연결된다. 툴민의 논증이론이 가지고 있는 또 하나의 약점이 있다. 그것은 툴민의 논거 개념의 불명확함이다. 툴민은 논거의 개념을 단지 ‘If~then~’의 형식으로 정의했을 뿐이다. 그래서 어떻게 논거가 구체적으로 분석에 적용될지,논거가 다양한 논증의 장에 적용될지가 불명확하다. 그리고 논거가 전제하고 있는 사회적 가치가 무엇인지를 밝히지 못하고 있다. 이러한 것들을 분석하기 위해서 이 논문에서는 툴민의 논거 개념과 아리스토텔레스의 토포스 개념을 접합해서 사고해 보고자 한다. 이와 같은 분석은 사회 가치에 대한 가치평가로서의 비판적 사고와 대안적 가치를 주장할 수 있는 창조적 사고와 연결된다. 마지막으로 이와 같은 과정을 통해서 구성된 분석틀의 한계와 유용성을 살펴보고, 앞으로 진행되어야할 이론적 작업에 대해서 제안하도록 하겠다.

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

The purpose of this paper is to extend the range of application of Toulmin's argumentation theory without impairing usefulness and rationality of Toulmin's theory. Toulmin's theory is capable to analysis a argumentation which is composed of by a few sentence well. But not to analysis a sequence of argumentation such as an editorial. So in order to compensate for this theoretical weakness and construct analysis-frame, we will try to articulate two theory: Van Dijk's text theory which emphasize a organic structure of text and Toulmin's argumentation theory. This aspect of analysis of an argumentation relate to a critical thinking as criticism. There is another theoretical weakness of Toulmin. That is vagueness of concept of 'warrant'. Toulmin only defines concept of warrant as formulation like this: "If~then~". So we don't know how can a warrant apply to a different field of argumentation and contain a particular social value. Toulmin never a satisfactory answer for this question. In order to provide answer for this question, we will try to articulate two concept: Toulmin's warrant and Aristotle's topos. This aspect of analysis of an argumentation compose relate to a critical thinking as valuative thinking about a social value creation thinking which can argue a counter or alternative value. Lastly we will examine a limit of our analysis-frame and suggest a further theoretical work.
