생명담론의 낭만주의적 성격 = The Romanticism in Korean 'Life discourse'

국문 초록 (Abstract)

이 글은 한국 생명담론을 낭만주의 전통의 하나로 설명하고자 한다. 20세기 초 독일 등 중동부 유럽과 비서구사회의 주된 사조였던 낭만주의는 세계화 시대에 민중주의, 정체성 정치, 생태주의 등의 형상을 띠고 부활하고 있다. 한국의 생명담론 및 생명운동 역시 이러한 경향의 일환으로 볼 수 있으며 따라서 낭만주의가 지닌 속성을 찾을 수 있다. 한국 생태주의에 강하게 스며들어 있는 생태중심주의는 인간사회와 자연을 무차별적으로 동일시하는 자연환원론적 성격을 지니며, 가톨릭교회 낙태반대운동의 생명론은 ‘생명에 대한 무조건적인 선택’의 양상을 보이고 있다. 생명담론의 또 다른 특징은 종합적인 논리구조이다. 한국 생명담론은 낭만주의에서 전형적으로 나타나듯이 전체를 강조하고 총체적 전환, 자연과학과 인문과학, 과학과 종교의 융합을 주창한다.

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

This paper aims to explain the Korean ``life discourse`` in comparison with the Romanticist tradition. Romanticism, which has been a main discourse in eastern Europe and the non-western world during the first half of twentieth century, is resurging in the Era of Globalization in the form of Populism, identity politics, ecology, etc. The Korean ``life movement`` can be considered as a part of this tendency, and so we can suppose that it possesses the characteristic features of Romanticism. The eco-centrism which is widely spread in Korean ecology is reductionist, in that it equetes human society with nature, and the discourse of life in the anti-abortion movement of the Catholic Church takes on the character of “unconditional choice in favor of the life.” Another feature of the Korean life discourse is its synthesizing theoretical structure. It emphasizes the whole, and suggests the total transformation of the world as well as the fusion of natural sciences and humanities, and that of science and religion.
