공감각적 맥락에서 본 아동 그림책의 특성에 관한 연구 = A Study of Characteristics of a Picture Book for Children from the Perspective of Synesthetic Contexts

Modern society has got to have new social features and structures with the development of information communications and technology. In consequence to that, it is well known that human senses have also undergone changes. In short the extension of typography have made characters the main focus of the media, which made us undergo the era of grapho-sphere overemphasizing on the sense of sight. Now the arrival of electronic era has made us turn back to multi-senses we needed in the era of logo-sphere. Accordingly humans rely not merely upon the sense of sight but also upon interactions of senses complying with characteristics of modern society which tend to actively utilize relative equalities of five senses. Synesthesia is a sense which stimulates the susceptibility and the imaginative power of human. Synesthesia has been applied to principles of art since ancient time, and it is becoming the focus of interest lately again. Synesthesia is a 'golden rule of sense' as a synthetic human sense we need again in modern society. In general a book is recognized as a visual medium. But I think, on the contrary, a book is a medium which best reveals the interactive characteristics of human five senses. Given these facts, books for children are the most important objects of study in modern publishing industry. Especially synesthesia as children's archaic sensibility, should be applied to designing books for children as the most important principle. Also, the interests in the possibility of applying the synesthetic methods grows rapidly especially in educational methodology for children. A picture-book is a best medium that reveals the synesthetic characteristics most vividly of all books for children.

국문 초록 (Abstract)

현대 사회는 정보통신의 발달로 인해서 새로운 사회적 모습과 구조를 가지며, 그에 따라서 인간의 감각에도 변화가 오게 된 것은 주지(周知)의 사실이다. 요컨대, 인쇄술이 발전하면서 문자가 미디어의 중심이 되면서 시각에만 편중된 활자 시대(grapho_sphere)를 이어, 전자시대가 도래하면서 구어시대(logo_sphere)에 요구되었던 복수 감각으로 회귀하게 되었다. 따라서 인간의 감각은 단순히 시각에만 의존 하지 않으며, 오감각간에 상대적 평등을 적극적으로 활용하고자 하는 현대 사회의 시대적 특성에 따른 감각간의 상호작용성이 확장하게 되었다. 공감각(synesthesia)이란, 인간의 감성과 상상력을 자극하는 감각으로서 이미 고대시대부터 예술의 원리에 적용되었던 감각으로 최근 다시 관심을 모으고 있다. 공감각은 인간의 통합적 감각으로서 ‘감각의 황금률’이다. 일반적으로 책은 시각적인 미디어로 인지되고 있으나, 책이란 인간의 다섯 가지 감각의 상호작용적 특징이 가장 잘 드러나는 매체이다. 이러한 맥락에서 볼 때, 현대 출판시장에서 아동 도서는 가장 중요한 연구대상이다. 특히 아동에게 있어 공감각은 아동의 원초적 감각(archaic sensibility)으로 이는 아동의 책에 가장 중요한 원리로서 적용되어져야 한다. 아동 도서 중에서도 그림책은 공감각적 특성이 가장 잘 나타나는 매체이다. 1장에서는 시대의 변화에 따른 감각 비율의 문제와 현대 사회의 감각 구조에 따른 공감각의 특성 연구의 배경 설명과 2장에서는 공감각적 원리가 적용된 역사적 맥락과의 논의와 공감각의 개념 정의, 문학 텍스트에 보이는 공감각적 표현들을 짚어 보며, 연구자가 디자인 이론에서 공감각이라고 볼 수 있는 논의들을 가져다 놓음으로써 공감각을 여러 각도에서 조명해본다. 3장에서는 아동 그림책의 정보적 특성과 공간적 특성을 고찰하여 공감각의 특질과 그림책의 특성은 어떠한 요소로 구성되어 있으며, 이것과 공감각과의 연계점은 구체적으로 어떤 것인지 제시하고자 한다.
