This study aims to investigate the effects of the teacher's intervention for sand play during free play period on young children's mathematical achievement and scientific exploration ability.<br/>
The subjects were 24 five-year-old children who attended 2day-care centers in I city of Jeonbuk. To analyze the mathematical achievement and scientific exploration ability, two instruments were used: Mathematical Achievement(Lee Gi Hyon, 1995) and Scientific Exploration Ability(Lee Kyoung Min, 2000).<br/>
The findings of this study were as follows: First, The teacher's intervention for sand play during free play period improved significantly the children's mathematical achievement. Second, the teacher's intervention for sand play during free play period improved significantly the children's scientific exploration ability.
