Children's playing songs have been sung and enjoyed by children in their daily lives. By singing children's playing songs, they learn words, get acquaint with music as a musical language, and get familiar with the process of socialization as well. This research takes the approach that the proper understanding and affection for the Korean tradition that is prone to be disappeared can be made through the natural activity of children. The purpose of this study was to investigate the effects of the program of traditional children's playing songs on young children's social competence.
The research questions were as follows:
First. What are the effects of the program of traditional children's playing songs on young children's social competence?
The subjects of the study were 60 children consisted of 30 children of A kindergaten(the experimental group) and 30 children of B kindergaten(the comparison group) in K city.
The data were collected by social competence questionnaire. The experimental group and the comparison group were provided daily lessons based on kindergaten curriculum but the experimental group was provided a programm of traditional play song. Each programactivity was a 30minutes lesson for8 weeks. Activity times were provided for the various activities of each characters.

Analysis of data was applicable to mean, standard deviation, and th find out the statical significant differences between the scores of the pre-test and post-test, the date were analyzed by t-test and ANCOVA.
The results of this study were summarized as follows:
First. The program of traditional playing song s improved young children's social competence. There were differences in the development of social concern and participation competence between experimental and control group. There was no significant difference in the development of social competence to adapt the social rules between two groups.
Traditional children's playing songs program is effective for the improvement of young children's emotional intelligence and social competence. So it must be used at our kindergarten's educational program.
