시아버지에 의한 며느리 박해의 소설화 양상 = Fictionalized Aspects of Son`s Wife Oppressed by His Father

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

In the aspect of family conflicts, this study discussed how son`s wife was oppressed by his father in Korean traditional fictions. Traditionally, the family relationships between son`s wife and his father were based on love and respect. That is why there were difficulties with fictionalizing any conflict between them. However, Korean medieval novels like <Sukyangjeon> and <Sugyeong Nangjajeon> embodied family conflicts in which father seeks to kill or kills his son`s wife due to his distrust of her. To relieve conflicts between son`s wife and his father, these two medieval novels were embodied in such a way that she could change the mind of her husband`s father into better directions, rather than request any wisdom to oppressor(i.e. her husband`s father) in advance. And it is typical in these two novels that she underlined some advantageous aspects such as her native family, female works and chastity in order to get acknowledged by her husband`s father. These traditional aspects required for son`s wife were in close associations with women`s ideology in Korean medieval era, and also revealed that son`s wife had to carry on her burdensome life in the yoke of traditional custom.
